Saturday 20 October 2012

Villa
Doors open 10pm

Inhibit and Viper Recordings are proud to present the second installment of VIPER @ VILLA - a night where we showcase the full force of one of the hottest imprints in drum & bass today.

The first edition in April was a landmark event for Perth with SHOCKONE & METRIK tearing the roof off a sold out Villa Nightclub. This time around promises to be just as epic with the label boss MATRIX & FUTUREBOUND returning to Perth alongside SMOOTH, one of the most exciting and talked about producers in the scene today, and of course our own homegrown superstar PHETSTA!

THIS WILL SELL OUT!

MATRIX & FUTUREBOUND, both having pursued successful solo careers, need no introduction to drum & bass fans around the world. Both running their own labels (Matrix with Metro Recordings and Futurebound with Viper Recordings) and with releases on virtually every top label from Virus and Ram, to Moving Shadow and Hospital Records, Matrix and Futurebound's individual accomplishments speak for themselves. Their first collaborative effort, 2005's 'Strength 2 Strength', formed the groundwork for what would later turn into the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, 'Universal Truth'. With huge support from the top DJs in drum & bass and the likes of Radio 1's Annie Mac and Zane Lowe, Universal Truth went on to become one of the most successful drum & bass albums to date. Now in 2012, Matrix & Futurebound have opened a new chapter as they work towards the release of their second artist album. The first single, ‘All I Know’ which features vocalist Luke Bingham was the first peak at the forthcoming project. Having cracked the official UK Top 40 charts at #26 and reigning supreme on BBC Radio 1 “B” and 1Xtra “A” playlist, the single sets the perfect tone for what is to come over the next 12 months from Matrix & Futurebound.

SMOOTH was introduced to music at the age of 10, when he began to practice piano. After practicing for 3 years and later on he became more interested in guitar, also in such genres as metal, hardcore etc. When a couple of years passed by he attended his first drum n bass party and he was hooked! It was very soon after that he decided not just to love this music but also to make his own tunes. His first release was ‘Lost Cause’ in 2005 on Touchin’ Down Records. As he researched sound more and more, he decided that his sound just wasn’t good enough, so he shut himself in the studio and waited until 2008 when his improving sound was noticed by Dementia. Together with Rregula they released ‘Obfuscate’ on Trust in Music 12?. Following this, he released ‘Space Attack’ on Recon and the massive ‘Out of Time’ on Ruse records. After hearing ‘Under The Moon’ which would appear on Viper Recordings ‘Acts of Mad Men’ album, Smooth was signed to the label. Now in 2012 Smooth is making some huge releases including remixing the likes of NC-17, Seven Lions and Camo & Krooked as well as collaborating with another Viper badman InsideInfo. Smooth has his stage set.

PHETSTA burst onto the Drum & Bass scene in 2005 when he signed exclusively to the legendary Simon Bassline Smith's imprint Technique Recordings. The Australian producer quickly stamped a name for himself within the genre with his early releases. These included his first extended player 'The Congo EP' which cracked the UK Drum & Bass top 10 sales charts, Knowledge Magazine calling it "a production masterpiece". Later in 2011 he collaborated with ShockOne on the track 'Crucify Me'. The two part monster of a single helped them become the first artist ever to top both the Track It Down D&B and dubstep charts simultaneously. It held onto the Beatport Drum & Bass top spot for six weeks straight and again received daytime radio play. Phetsta has also completed a string of remixes for Those Usual Suspects through One Love / Sony Australia, Bombs Away on Universal Australia, bass label Never Say Die and the legendary D&B powerhouse Hospital Recordings. Phetsta's music has received DJ support from Pendulum, Skream & Benga, TC, Rusko, Richard Kingsmill and Zane Lowe.
