Doors Open 10pm

Back again with a kaleidoscopic showcase of dance-music futurists, Red Bull Music Academy and {move} are proud to present a night of bass weight and synth-fused sonic weaponry – Samiyam, TokiMonsta, Martyn and Illumshpere; Friday 17th of September at Villa Nightclub. With four of the worlds leading electronic producers from two of the worlds most acclaimed and exciting new labels, Perth will have never before enjoyed such a forward-thinking and cutting edge line-up.

Each year since 1998, the Red Bull Music Academy has been pulling together pioneers of days gone by, musical legends of tomorrow and carefully selected participants from all aspects of rhythm and sound from around the world to check gear, play clubs, swap musical visions, discover secrets, attend lectures and collaborate in studio sessions. And each year attendees and lecturers from previous terms travel the world to spread the RBMA gospel and share the music created and fostered at the Academy.

The 2010 RBMA tour brings the absolute bleeding edge of modern bass music to Perth for the first time ever:
Samiyam and TokiMonsta hail from the groundbreaking LA beat scene, performing regularly at the seminal Low End Theory parties and releasing music for Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder dream-team/label. Samiyam is also one half of the Flyamsam Project with Flying Lotus.
“Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. Fans like Benji B, Andrew Meza and XLR8R have been eagerly snapping up his tracks, as Sam freeze frames Electro energy and spits it back out as twisted future Jazz. Dabrye is a fan, Daedelus describes him as ‘a thrilling sound to break the sameness … He's a new voice, thank goodness. So far, from the sounds I've heard, he has channeled a lot of the energy of classic electro, but with a deliberate slower pacing, which I believe is rare from a producer so young.’"
“After being highly recommended by Flying Lotus, Mary Anne Hobbs immediately featured an exclusive mix of TOKiMONSTA tracks on her BBC Radio 1 program. Since then, TOKi has become a reoccurring favorite—MAH has said, ‘WOW! This girl is absolutely incredible’ and ‘She’s my favorite female producer on the planet!’”

Martyn and Illum Sphere are two true innovators amid the global bass phenomenon. Leaving simple classifications such as dubstep, drum & bass, or hip-hop to pigeonhole themselves into insignificance, these artists forge new rhythms and sounds with every release. Between them they have produced music for the most innovative labels of their time - Hyperdub, Fat City, Tempa, Fabric, Hessle Audio and Warp to name only a few. Both currently reside on Martyn’s own highly sought-after 3024 imprint.
“With a sound that has become emblematic for all that’s forward thinking in dubstep Martyn pushes a defiant out-of-the-box mentality into his every artistic venture, scorning genre convention and relentlessly embracing the new”

“Winning the BBC 1xtra Urban Music Award, invitations to play at LA institution Low End Theory (only the second English person to do so after Mary Anne Hobbs) and this year's Red Bull Music Academy in London, through to remix requests from Martyn, Zed Bias and Warp Records, he has already become one the UK’s most hotly tipped producers, whilst remaining outside of the London hype machine. Add to that the gleaming praise given by all those that play his groundbreaking Hoya:Hoya night in Manchester, an EP on Martyn’s 3024 imprint, support from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer, Lorn, Ras G and Daedelus, 2010 seems certain to be the year that Illum Sphere cements his place among the underground music elite.”

Each artist has been carefully selected by the Red Bull Music Academy team to showcase a broad ranging but interconnected vision of future electronic/bass music. All four have gained worldwide acclaim for their live performances and studio recordings on their own merit. Fri 17th of September will see them come together for the very first time for a ridiculous rinse out on the reinforced heavyweight system at Villa.
On top of all this, we also have local (sine)wave-makers TA-KU [aka FLIP] and Vishnu representing Perth’s burgeoning bass/beats/dubstep scene!
